Associate (BIM Specialist)

Position Overview:
An Associate is a highly regarded and accomplished professional with proven practical experience. They are a trusted leadership team member who can carry out their responsibilities in a consistently professional manner while upholding and enhancing the reputation of the practice within the architecture and interior design community.

This role also requires BIM Specialist responsibilities, acting as the interface between the Studio BIM Manager and project teams. The role seeks to continually streamline and improve BIM processes and digital project delivery.

Design

An Associate is expected to assist and contribute to the level of excellence in conceptual and functional design thinking on projects by:

  • Contributing to project delivery within brief, scope and fee, and to the highest standard of design.
  • Assisting in research into best-practice standards of design, materials selection, sustainability and technology relevant to the typology.
  • Working with the Leadership team to ensure appropriate inputs to the design.
  • Providing thought leadership and sharing knowledge and expertise with junior team members.
  • Supporting sustainable design and designing with Country principles across project work and communications.

  • Driving continuous improvement and minimising risk through adherence to industry codes, regulations, standards and quality management requirements.
  • Leading high-level client and consultant contact throughout all stages of project design and digital delivery.

  • Providing input into invoicing, program, variations, scope, briefs, fees and resource requirements.
  • Assisting with project deadlines and contractual obligations.
  • Identifying and minimising design, documentation and digital delivery risks.

Studio BIM Collaboration

The role will collaborate with the Design Technology Team, Practice Standards Committee and Studio BIM Manager across digital delivery, BIM capability and design technology initiatives, including:

  • Reviewing and improving BIM workflows and processes.
  • Developing, implementing and maintaining BIM and Revit standards.
  • Supporting Revit adoption and interoperability across studios.
  • Providing technical leadership, troubleshooting, coaching, training and induction support for Revit users.
  • Monitoring and maintaining the quality of Revit outputs and BIM deliverables, including Revit health checks and clash detection.
  • Identifying and escalating BIM-related project risks.
  • Maintaining and customising BIM software, templates, families and libraries.
  • Supporting BIM-related software updates and working with external consultants on project BIM strategies.

People

  • Supporting Leadership in developing effective team structures.
  • Being involved in recruitment of junior personnel.
  • Supporting a safe and healthy working environment.
  • Promoting the cultural and ethical values of the practice.
  • Providing mentorship and coaching to junior team members.

Brand and Business Development

  • Building market knowledge to support capability development and winning new work.
  • Contributing appropriate billable time to business development.
  • Working with the marketing and business development team on planned activities.
  • Participating in BD planning sessions and events.
  • Attending industry events and professional development programs.

Finance

  • Understanding project fee revenue generation through new work, fee variations and future project stages.
  • Assisting with financial and operational project performance where required.
  • Assisting with fee proposals and negotiating appropriate fee outcomes.
  • Supporting appropriate project resourcing, billing and debtor follow-up.
  • Assisting Leadership in establishing revenue targets.
