An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Capital Works Project Manager to join an established organisation with a significant pipeline of capital works and improvement projects across Sydney.
This is a client-side position offering the opportunity to take ownership of projects from initial planning and scoping through to design, procurement, construction and final handover.
The successful candidate will work closely with internal stakeholders, consultants, contractors and external project partners to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management
Manage the end-to-end delivery of multiple capital works projects across the portfolio.
Lead projects from initial scope development and feasibility through design, procurement, construction and completion.
Develop and manage project programmes, budgets, milestones and delivery strategies.
Identify and manage project risks, issues, dependencies and opportunities.
Ensure projects are delivered within agreed timeframes, budgets and quality requirements.
Monitor project progress and implement corrective actions where required.
Maintain accurate project documentation, reporting and records.
Design & Procurement
Coordinate the engagement and management of external consultants and specialist advisors.
Manage design development and ensure project requirements are clearly defined.
Assist with procurement strategies, tendering and contractor selection.
Review scopes of work, tender documentation, programmes and project costs.
Manage the transition from design through to construction and delivery.
Construction & Delivery
Oversee contractors and consultants throughout the delivery phase.
Monitor construction progress, quality, programme and budget performance.
Ensure appropriate project governance, compliance and reporting processes are maintained.
Identify and resolve project issues in a timely and commercially focused manner.
Coordinate stakeholder requirements throughout the construction process.
Manage project completion, defects, commissioning and handover.
Stakeholder Management
Develop strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Work closely with relevant operational and management teams to understand project requirements.
Communicate project status, risks, costs and key decisions clearly to senior stakeholders.
Manage expectations across multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
Represent the organisation professionally when dealing with consultants, contractors and external parties.
About You
The ideal candidate will be an experienced Project Manager with a strong background in capital works, construction or refurbishment projects.
You will ideally have:
5+ years' experience in project management, construction or capital works.
Demonstrated experience managing projects through the full project lifecycle.
Experience working client-side, within a project management consultancy or similar environment.
Strong understanding of construction processes, procurement and contractor management.
Experience managing project budgets, programmes and risks.
Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
A proactive and solutions-focused approach to project delivery.
Relevant tertiary qualification in Construction, Project Management, Engineering, Property or a related discipline.
