CIVIL CONSTRUCTION ‘ACTIVITY TEAM LEADER’

Job Scope:
The Activity Team Leader will be responsible for multiple activity oversights from inception to completion, including preparation of estimates and activity tendering, managing contracts and staff, and reporting on key financial and non-financial metrics relating to activity progress. The role has responsibility for all inputs that contribute to the performance and profitability of the activity
The Activity Team Leader will coordinate with the Managing Director to provide timely, insightful data on activity status to ensure that project administration is completed to guarantee the smooth delivery of high-quality results to clients. This should include a monthly management report based on the activity’s performance.

It is essential that the Activity Team Leader is able to communicate and work effectively with internal and external parties. CIVIL CONSTRUCTION ‘ ACTIVITY TEAM LEADER’   REPORTS TO: MANAGING DIRECTOR 
LIAISES WITH: TEAM LEADERS, CONTRACT MANAGER, SITE SUPERVISOR, HR/ADMIN AND GENERAL STAFF
 
 
 
Job Scope:
The Activity Team Leader will be responsible for multiple activity oversights from inception to completion, including preparation of estimates and activity tendering, managing contracts and staff, and reporting on key financial and non-financial metrics relating to activity progress. The role has responsibility for all inputs that contribute to the performance and profitability of the activity 
The Activity Team Leader will coordinate with the Managing Director to provide timely, insightful data on activity status to ensure that project
administration is completed to guarantee the smooth delivery of high-quality results to clients. This should include a monthly management report based on the activity’s performance.

The Activity Team Leader requires strong analytical skills to actively contribute and provide recommendations to the Managing Director.

  Ensure specific project templates being completed in a timely manner to assist with measurement of project performance.
  Promote proper use of the CCL Employee Processes & Rulebook
  Purchase Orders are correctly completed at source & issued
  Monitor progress of physical works to ensure works meet specification and are tracking on time
  Ensure activity tasks are constructed on time
  Ensure smooth delivery of activity contract from start through to completion.
  Ensure that Client expectations are managed
  Ensure activity deliverables meet contract specification 
  Identify ways to Eliminate or minimise re-work
  Co-ordinate ongoing communications 
  Ensure that disputes are resolved in an efficient manner (if able) or expedited to the HR Administrator, or Managing Director
  Proactive and retrospective issue/opportunity identification and resolution/action
  Contribute to & Assist Contracts Manager in forward work planning
 
  Uses industry knowledge and experience to identify issues and opportunities in current projects and proactively communicates findings with solutions and recommended actions to Managing Director
  Ensure Activity Subcontractors are managed in accordance with company policy & procedures
  Timely and insightful reporting to relevant project stakeholders
  Have activity specific input on Contractors Reports and provide activity updates to stakeholders
  Managing budgeted man hours vs actual man hours & activity finances against budget
  Ensure variations / out of scope work are captured, budgeted and managed appropriately 
  Assist with and manage claims and distribute to the Project Engineer &/or client within the relevant time requirements to ensure prompts payment
Health & Safety and
Environmental

Has an in-depth knowledge of the company’s H&S policies, procedures and practices
Educate, mentor and promotes the company’s H&S policies, procedures and practices to all
Ensure company H&S policies, procedures and practices are always current and meet industry best practice standards.
  Has a solid understanding of the company’s environmental management policies and procedures and practice workplace environmental management in accordance with these policies and procedures 
  Weekly crew debriefs conducted & reported
  Ensure all employees are trained for tasks that they are required to undertake.
  Keep up-to-date with H&S legislation and best practice industry application
   Create a safe work environment
  Advocate zero harm
  Have input to monthly toolbox meeting(s) and run onsite meetings that include a H&S section that include best practices, review of incidents, lessons learnt, etc.
  Ensure equipment is operated in a safe manner and in accordance with manufacturers guidelines, and that daily plant checks are conducted and recorded
  Ensure daily H&S checks are undertaken and that the appropriate PPE is worn / used 
  Wears and utilises appropriate Personal Protective Equipment for the job
  Ensure all employees and Sub-contractors are inducted onto work site(s) and provided with information to undertake their duties safely. Have records of these evaluations.
 
  Ensure the correct process for incident investigation is followed, recorded and documented using the accident / incident investigation flow chart, OFI Forms and Accident/ Incident Investigation Forms
  Assist & Conduct Safety Audits
Administration & Process
Operate within CCL’s policies, procedures and practices
Ensure administration policies and practices are adhered to so that data can be entered on-time
  Be involved in the audit, review and update of business systems and administration systems to ensure that they are efficiently meeting their objectives
  Record all dialogue, site notes and file appropriately
Financial Ensure that all work is costed and tendered for on the basis that it returns at the required profit level unless other directions are received. 
  Ensure activity are profitable and tracking in accordance with budget
  Ensure Activity Budgets are updated as required (Man hours/plant hours)
  Report reasons why completed amounts varied to those budgeted/claimed
  Work closely with the Admin Team to determine current and forecast project profitability 
  Regularly review activity financial data to maintain an understanding of productivity and the cost of jobs.
  When making a decision, evaluate all possible courses of action and choose the one that will make the best profit for the business while not compromising Health and Safety, quality and environmental objectives
  Good understanding of business profitability and the cost implications of decisions
  Assist with Monthly Project Performance Reports
  Sign off invoices in a timely manner 
  Abide by company purchasing policy
Machinery & Equipment Efficient, effective and legal operation of all vehicles, plant and equipment 
Complete Daily Plant and Equipment checks
  Ensure warm up/cool down procedures correctly completed along with keeping machinery and equipment clean, tidy and respectable at all times.

  Manage Machinery and Equipment allocation within Activity
  -Ensure utilization & positioning of machinery & equipment is correct

  Ensure capital equipment is serviced according to schedule and in accordance with manufacturers specifications
  Liaise with HR  to ensure team operating machinery are qualified and able to do so

  1. Qualifications and Experience 
 
    • Preferable, but not essential: Tertiary certificate in specific Activity 
    • Diploma in an engineering discipline or equivalent technical experience
    • Experience in a construction management 
    • Excellent knowledge of management best practices and strong managerial skills.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of cost control, cost reporting and project schedule management
    • Demonstrated track record of multi-project coordination with projects in varying phases of completion

    • Current clean Class 1 license
    • It is preferable to the company for the employee to obtain W,T,R endorsements and Class 2 & 4 licenses

  1. Qualifications and Experience 
 
    • Preferable, but not essential: Tertiary certificate in specific Activity 
    • Diploma in an engineering discipline or equivalent technical experience
    • Experience in a construction management 
    • Excellent knowledge of management best practices and strong managerial skills.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of cost control, cost reporting and project schedule management
    • Demonstrated track record of multi-project coordination with projects in varying phases of completion
Please note: It is beneficial that other relevant industry certificates are held, however necessary training will be provided to the successful applicant as required.
  1. Licenses
    • Current clean Class 1 license
    • It is preferable to the company for the employee to obtain W,T,R endorsements and Class 2 & 4 licenses
