The Opportunity

An established multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is looking to add an Intermediate Civil Engineer to its Southern Lakes team, with the flexibility to be based in either Queenstown or Wānaka.

The consultancy has built strong relationships with a number of well-established developers and private clients and has been involved in some of the Southern Lake’s region’s more prominent and technically interesting developments.

This is an opportunity for an engineer who enjoys variety and wants to be more than a small part of a large project team.

You’ll work across a broad mix of civil projects, including high-quality residential, commercial and land development work, with the opportunity to take genuine ownership of your projects.

You’ll also have access to experienced engineers and wider structural and geotechnical capability across the business.

The Role

Your projects are likely to span:

  • Land development and subdivision projects
  • High-quality residential and commercial developments
  • Stormwater, wastewater and water infrastructure
  • Roading, pavements and access design
  • Earthworks and cut-and-fill modelling
  • Stormwater management and treatment
  • Flood risk assessment and hydraulic modelling
  • Retaining structures, culverts and associated civil infrastructure
Depending on your experience, you’ll be involved across the project lifecycle from initial investigation and concept design through to detailed design, documentation and delivery.

The team is looking for someone capable of working relatively independently, managing their own workload and taking responsibility for the quality of their design work.

About You

We’re looking for an Intermediate Civil Engineer who is technically capable, practical and comfortable taking ownership of their work.

You’re likely to bring:

  • Approximately 3+ years’ civil engineering experience
  • Experience within land development, infrastructure, three waters or a related civil environment
  • Strong Civil 3D capability
  • The ability to work independently and progress designs without constant supervision
  • Good communication skills and a practical approach to engineering
  • Experience with HEC-RAS and/or QGIS would be advantageous
The consultancy is open-minded regarding your exact qualification pathway, so this role could suit someone with either a traditional engineering degree or a strong technical background who has developed solid practical design capability.

What’s on Offer

You’ll be joining a collaborative multidisciplinary environment with exposure across civil, structural and geotechnical engineering.

One of the real attractions is the calibre of the work.

The business has developed relationships with established private clients and developers and has contributed to prominent, design-led developments throughout the Southern Lakes.

For the right person, this is an opportunity to work on genuinely interesting projects, build stronger client and project exposure, take on increasing responsibility and continue developing technically without getting lost in a large corporate environment.

This opportunity is not to be missed so apply now or reach out to Hugh Miller for a confidential discussion at ••••@redpathpartners.com
