An established civil contractor with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality infrastructure projects is looking for a Project Engineer to join its growing Central Otago team.

Working across a diverse portfolio of civil infrastructure projects, this is an opportunity to take ownership beyond the day-to-day site delivery. You'll play an integral role in project planning, commercial performance, programming and stakeholder management while helping deliver projects safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

If you're looking to take the next step in your engineering career with a business that invests in its people and promotes from within, we'd love to hear from you.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Project Manager, you'll be responsible for supporting the successful delivery of projects from planning through to completion. You'll work closely with site teams, subcontractors and clients to ensure projects remain on programme, within budget and achieve quality outcomes.

This is a balanced role that combines technical engineering, commercial awareness and leadership, providing exposure to every stage of the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support project planning, methodology development and delivery strategies.

  • Develop and maintain project programmes to meet key milestones.
  • Monitor project budgets, forecasts and financial performance.
  • Procure and manage subcontractors, suppliers and project resources.
  • Prepare project documentation including reporting, contracts and variations.
  • Identify and manage project risks and opportunities.
  • Coordinate with clients, consultants and internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain high standards across health & safety, environmental compliance and quality assurance.
  • Assist in driving continuous improvement across project delivery.

About You

We're looking for an engineer who enjoys taking ownership and thrives in a collaborative project environment.

You'll ideally have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Around five years' experience delivering civil infrastructure or construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of project delivery, planning and contract administration.
  • Experience with programming, project documentation and cost control.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach with strong commercial awareness.
  • The ability to lead by example and support site teams to achieve successful outcomes.
  • A current New Zealand Class 1 Driver Licence.

The offer

This organisation is committed to developing its people and providing genuine long-term career opportunities.

You'll enjoy:

  • Competitive remuneration package.
  • Medical and life insurance.
  • Enhanced KiwiSaver contributions.
  • Paid parental leave support.
  • Ongoing professional development and structured career progression.
  • Employee discounts and wellbeing initiatives.
  • The opportunity to work on a strong pipeline of civil infrastructure projects throughout Central Otago.
