Due to ongoing success across its established engineering disciplines, growing client demand and increasing requests to provide civil engineering services, this respected New Zealand consultancy is excited to appoint a Senior Civil Engineer / Team Lead.
The role offers the opportunity to build on an existing project and client base while helping shape the future direction of the civil team.
This is a genuine growth appointment rather than a replacement.
You will join a collaborative, technically capable business with the backing, relationships and internal business development support required to grow a successful civil offering.
The Role
Working closely with the local and national leadership teams, you will lead the delivery of civil projects while developing client relationships, mentoring engineers and contributing to the continued growth of the business.
The position combines hands-on technical delivery with team leadership, client engagement and business development.
Projects will include greenfield and brownfield land development, subdivisions, three waters infrastructure, roading and earthworks, ranging from smaller developments through to complex, large-scale projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead civil projects from feasibility and concept design through consenting, detailed design and delivery
- Provide technical oversight and quality assurance across land development, three waters, earthworks and roading work
- Manage project programmes, budgets, resourcing and client expectations
- Build strong relationships with developers, contractors, councils and other key stakeholders
- Support business development, identify new opportunities and help grow the civil project pipeline
- Mentor intermediate and junior engineers and contribute to the development of a high-performing team
- Collaborate with structural, geotechnical, surveying, planning and other specialist disciplines
You will be an experienced civil engineer with a strong New Zealand consulting background and the confidence to take ownership of projects, relationships and people. You may already be leading a team, or you may be a technically strong Senior Civil Engineer ready to step into a broader leadership role.
You’ll likely bring:
- Approximately 7+ years of civil engineering experience, ideally within a New Zealand consultancy
- Strong land development and/or three waters experience
- Demonstrated capability across civil design, consenting and project delivery
- Proficiency in 12d and/or Civil 3D, with 12d experience highly regarded
- Strong client-facing communication and relationship-building skills
- An interest in business development and growing a team, with support available if this is a newer part of your experience
- A relevant civil engineering qualification; CPEng is desirable but not essential
- A visible leadership position with the autonomy to influence the direction and growth of the civil business
- An established brand, strong client network and support from proven complementary disciplines
- A varied pipeline of land development, infrastructure and three waters work
