Senior Legal Counsel / Property Lawyer Melbourne | Hybrid Working

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join one of Australia's leading national retailers as it embarks on a significant period of growth and transformation following its acquisition by a global retail group.

Reporting into the Property team, this is a commercially focused role where you will provide legal support across a large national retail portfolio, partnering closely with Leasing, Property, Store Development and Finance to deliver strategic property outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review, negotiate and advise on retail lease documentation, including new stores, renewals, relocations, assignments and variations.
  • Draft and maintain lease precedents while ensuring consistency, governance and risk management across the portfolio.
  • Provide commercially pragmatic legal advice to internal stakeholders.
  • Support a high-volume national leasing and store expansion program.
  • Work closely with external landlords, legal representatives and internal teams to drive transactions through to execution.
  • Identify opportunities to improve legal processes and support the continued evolution of the Property function.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

  • Admission as an Australian Legal Practitioner.
  • Demonstrated experience in retail property law , with a strong focus on retail leasing .
  • Experience gained in-house or within a leading private practice.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to balance legal risk and business objectives.
  • Excellent negotiation, drafting and stakeholder management skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple transactions within a fast-paced environment.
